Class Descriptions:

Minecraft Mods with Scratch

Grades: 1st – 6th
Are you a Minecraft fanatic looking to mod your games? Hours of fun await! We teach you how to mod in easy-to-do chunks. We offer loads of helpful explanations and cool projects along the way, we will have you advancing levels, keeping score, respawning players, building portals, creating an archery range—and much more—faster than you can say redstone!

GameMaker

Grades: 1st – 6th
Do you want to develop computer games without spending countless hours learning how to become a programmer? Game Maker allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code. In this class students get started learning how to make characters move and have events occur on collisions, mouse clicks and more. Go home with your games and software to let you keep building!

Mindstorms EV3 Battle Bots

Grades: 4th – 8th
Students design, build and program awe-inspiring robots using LEGO’s® most advanced and newest robotics technology – the powerful MINDSTORMS® EV3 system. Classmates work together as a team to complete projects and win games created for EV3. Then team battle against each in robot sumo to see who can stay in the ring the longest.  The EV3 is today’s go-to robotics system for hobbyists and features improved digital sensors, a seven-state color-light sensor, new gyro sensors, touch sensors and an improved ultrasonic sensor.

Maker Lab:

Grades: 4th – 8th
Learn computer design tools and then put them to use with 2D (vinyl cutters, laser printers) and 3D (3D printers) tools.  Learn Computer aided design basics and then create your own custom shirt.  Additionally, learn how to use a laser cutter to cut, etch, and engrave designs in a variety of materials. Work with wood, paper, cardboard and more! Using graphics software to cut intricate designs and engrave highly detailed images at the touch of a button. The sky’s the limit with this simple and versatile tool.

3D printing is an additive manufacturing process whereby objects are built up from plastic filament, liquid resin, layers of powder, and even biocompatible or edible materials. Desktop 3D printing is today’s printing press, putting rapid prototyping, customizable products, and individualized medical appliances in reach of the general public. Literacy in basic 3D modeling and manufacturing is an essential skill for future STEM success in this country.
